Wonder Weeks App

Wondering Where You’re At With Your Baby’s Growth And Milestones?

So as I was saying in my Growth & Milestones post – during my time working at Kaleidoscope Children’s Therapy, a colleague of mine advocated and suggested this amazing app – The Wonder Weeks.

I can personally attest to the calming power of this app. There were countless times I’d be rocking a crying baby, feeling utterly defeated, only to check The Wonder Weeks app, see we were smack in the middle of a predicted “leap,” and instantly feel a wave of relief.

What Is The Wonder Weeks App About?

It’s a snazzy organizer/calendar that gives a timetable update of your little kiddo’s growth & milestones. The app also includes ‘leaps’ that happens when your child transitions to his (or her) next learning curve.

It’s Great Because…?

  • Personalized Leap Schedule: Enter your baby’s due date, and the app provides a personalized calendar of when to expect these “stormy” (fussy) and “sunny” (calm) phases.
  • Understanding Behaviors: It explains the new skills your baby is developing during each leap, giving context to their suddenly erratic behavior. “Ah, they’re not trying to drive me crazy; they’re just learning about patterns!”
  • Playtime Activities: It even suggests games and activities to stimulate your baby’s newly acquired skills, turning a challenging phase into an exciting opportunity for learning and bonding.
  • Informative articles: The in-app feature has a little snippet that explains what’s happening, along with a definition of it. It’s a nifty section for general knowledge.

It’s a fantastic tool for managing expectations, boosting your patience, and turning those bewildering “irritable times” into understandable developmental bursts.

How it helps:

Based on decades of scientific research by Dutch scientists Dr. Hetty van de Rijt and Dr. Frans Plooij, The Wonder Weeks theory postulates that babies go through predictable “mental leaps” – periods of rapid brain development that can often coincide with fussiness, clinginess, and changes in sleep or eating patterns. It’s frustrating, yes, but it’s a sign of incredible growth!

In a nutshell? It’s insightful and gives some tips and advice. Plus there’s videos too! (if you really need help)

Personal Notes

Knowing why my baby was suddenly a tiny fuss-monster helped me reframe the challenging moments as positive signs of their brain literally rewiring itself. It helps to sort-of ‘predict’ when the next irritable phase might be looming around the corner.

Course, I’d take it with a pinch of salt as it’s not completely 100% accurate – but hey, so is the weather forecasts. 😅

Also, as an FYI – I’m not being sponsored by this app in anyway. Just recommending it out there since I’ve used it. Thanks to my ex-colleague for suggesting this. 👍
